ALEX + MILES

My husband Alex Turner from the one and only Arctic Monkeys has teamed up with his bff Miles Kane from The Rascals. HOW CUTE!! :D <3 Although during my search, I came across the band 'The Rascals' so i got a hold of their album and listened to it a few times. I have come to the conclusion that there is, and never will be, a band that even comes close to the amazingness that is the arctic monkeys. =( you have no idea how sad i am right now!! :'( Looks like no one can do what my husband does...

I think The Rascals is going to the the closest I ever get to finding a band that is a bit like AM - but IT'S STILL NOT ENOUGH :( The rascals are a more mellow, less creative version of the Arctic Monkeys. The song titles are pretty good, but to me, if all the song titles aren't "fun" like AM, then it seems like you just had an random idea of a funny song name for a few songs but couldn't come up with anything better for the rest of the titles... They have a couple good songs like Out of Dreams and I'll Give You Sympathy (my favourites) but other than that, they're just ok...not fantastic. Also, their song called Bond Girl is so dumb. ....*rolls eyes.

BUT big ups to The Rascals for making a verb out of their band name and making it the album title (Y) haha i loved it so much <3> RASCALIZE

Alex Turner and Miles Kane also teamed up to create a new band called Last Shadow Puppets. This music is more sophisticated - they use a full orchestra as part of their band so their songs have A LOT more rhythm than their other individual bands which are just the regular vocals, drums, guitar, bass. It's more for people who think indie rock bands are juvenile and "noisy" ...these songs are more for them - melodic and james bond-ish.

CUTIES!! <3

P.S. if you are reading this right now and know of a band you think sounds like Arctic Monkeys, please COMMENT!!!!!!!!!!! (I'll love you FOREVER)

Album Review: This is War

30 seconds to mars added a new CD to their collection making it total 3 studio albums. They named it This is War; I'm pretty sure it refers to a battle with their record company, Virgin Recods, about the album. The battle was about the band signing a contract with Virgin Records in 1999 stating they would produce 3 albums by the summer 2009. After 30 Seconds to Mars failed to deliver the 3 albums, the company filed a $30 mil lawsuit against them! Long story short, Jared Leto stated the fact that by that time, the contract was 9 years old and by law, a contract in that state was only valid for 7 years...making this contract obsolete. They won the battle and resigned with EMI Records. Bad move Virgin Records.

I listened to the CD thoroughly and I would only give it a 3.5/5.

What I loved: =)
The songs were all pretty great. They were more "complicated" this time around, using more instruments and combining more musical elements than their previous albums. Jared's vocals amazed me as usual. :) From the songs, you can tell they're growing as a band which is pretty awesome. It's so fun to watch a band grow and develop into their own and see how it affects their music.
Definite listen-to's are Night of the Hunter (and the Flood remix) and the song This is War. Also, if you love their first single Kings and Queens which was on the radio, you MUST listen to the album version!!!! They edited the song down a minute or two to make it shorter and more radio friendly but you need to hear the longer version! There's more build up to the good parts like Jared's screaming course and gives the song more power (Y).
What I didn't like: =(
They named the CD "This is War"...giving the album an overall theme.
Which is okay...usually.
They picked that theme of war, battles, victims, victory and fighting for whats right but EVERY song has to do with just that. Every song has relatively the same kind of lyrics all revolving around some sort of war-related theme. By sticking extremely close to the album theme, they eliminated any potential for true variety in the songs. Each individual song is fantastic on its own, don't get me wrong, but listening to the songs as a collective was kind of daunting by the end of the CD because you were tired of hearing about the exact same thing in every song...
Oh my .....well hello to you too! ;)

EXAMS

I'm a university student. My job is to study for more hours than there are in one day, eat food that shouldn't be deemed as edible and party to the point where I should prrrrobably be put into rehab.
....yupp, sounds about right!

As I said, I spend most of my day studying ......and yet, my marks are still shit.
What is the most frustrating, is that I know the stuff for sure because if you asked me about it, I'd be able to tell you!
But my marks don't reflect it. Professors like to put foils in multiple choice questions on their exams and it's completely unfair. They're basically testing whether I can get around their foil instead of testing to see if I actually know the correct answer. bull shizz.
Marks should reflect how well you know the material - and that's it. That's all I'm saying.

K.C.

April 8th, 2010 marked the 16th anniversary of the discovery of [the great] Kurt Cobain's death. Yeah, I said 'great' ..so you can figure that I did tune in to the radio memorials and only listened to Nirvana tunes all day as my own little tribute.

I payed tribute to Kurt because I thought he was a great musician who started a genre of music - which most artists can not put on their repertoire. Some people think its stupid to celebrate someone who "just wrote music" - especially if you sang about the things that Kurt did; but if you think about it...he was a genius!

I'll explain why I said that in just a sec...

Most people crucify Cobain because his music "had no substance" and was simple. They think his lyrics weren't about anything deep and were virtually nonsense. However, being as it may, he started a genre of music and had music/merchandise sales that rivaled those of The Beatles, Elvis and Queen. People say his music had no substance and yet it can compete with those kinds of bands which the same people would probably call "the greats". That alone deserves some recognition. Even if Cobain was a pot smoking suicidal psycho, whose lyrics were so simple that in fact he fooled everyone (in an almost reverse psychological sense) into thinking they were the exact opposite - PROFOUND is quite brilliant not to mention completely comical. Confused? Let me clarify. If you think Cobain's lyrics were just nonsense words, and if that is exactly what Cobain wanted them to be...people bought into it! The majority of the young 90's music scene totally went for it! It could have been that they've never seen such simple lyrics before that they began to think the songs were incredible. The lyrics still spoke volumes to them - the same as the other major legendary bands of that decade. So that's what I'm trying to say: even if Cobain wrote the stupidest lyrics around, people were convinced they were touched by his words.

Now the other side of things. There are also the people who truly believed he wrote the truth about the simplest things and expressed his deepest emotions through lyrics that the people who listened to his music could relate to because of the sheer rawness of it. A rawness they had never experienced before.

You see, either way he was a genius who, in my opinion, deserves respect.

haha, I liked this picture of him..
